Objective

The Foundation’s main objective is to give financially disadvantaged students the opportunity to complete training courses offered at the Enkhuizer Zeevaartschool (EZS), e.g. steersman for small sailing ships, MARCOM A training or similar training. The Henk Wever Fund Foundation aims to preserve the ideas of Henk Wever, the founder of the foundation, and to preserve and maintain training courses for navigating sailors as a non-profit organisation.

Policy
Introduction

On 17 October 2016 the Henk Wever Fund Foundation was established and registered with the Chamber of Commerce. At the same time a bank account was opened.

In order to obtain PBO (Public Benefit Organisation) status from the tax authorities a policy outline is required. In drafting this, the conditions set by the tax authorities were considered. The advantage of PBO status is that donations are tax deductible for organisations and individuals and that the Foundation is exempt from taxation on contributions and donations.

Organisational structure

The HWF Foundation board consists of the following people:

Bernt Folmer, chairman, Enkhuizen

Martin Veul, secretary, Zutphen

Peter van Lieshoud, treasurer, Amsterdam

Marijke de Jong, board member, Enkhuizen

Henk Roelvink, board member, Enkhuizen

Arjen van der Veen, board member, Den Helder

Amber Linders, board member, Loosdrecht

All members or the board work on a voluntary basis and do not receive payment.

Practice and financial accountability

In 2016 – 2017 the Board established the foundation, acquired sponsors and selected students eligible for support from the Foundation in consultation with the Enkhuizer Zeevaartschool.

The Foundation maintains records of its income, sums spent on eligible students and reasonable expenses to board members. Records are kept for all costs in the form of a basic balance sheet and it includes all details necessary and useful for the implementation of the Fund’s purpose.

The Foundation follows the financial year January 1 to December 31. At the end of the calendar year, the chairman, in collaboration with the secretary and the treasurer, prepares the annual documents, including the financial report. These documents are submitted to the full board for approval and release at the annual meeting.

Once signed off, an overview is published on the Foundation’s website.
